Utah Only Holiday

So, the 24th of July in Utah is a State Holiday.  Which, only state employees and mamas get off.   Usually, people have BBQs, family parties, go swimming...ya know, hot activities.  Instead, my sister and I decided that we'd celebrate the Utah Pioneer holiday Japanese style.   We looked up the best Sushi place in Ogden and off we went.  We went to Hanamaru Japanese Sushi & Kaiseki.

It was delicious.

I've been on a seaweed salad quick for a while. Call me crazy, but I love the texture and the flavor.  Luckily, Aiko does too.

The sushi place has this amazing rock garden.  It's quite peaceful for having their restaurant just off of Washington Boulevard.  We let Aiko run around to get all her squirms out.

After the husband got off work, we headed to the REAL soccer game!  Our friends, the Terry's invited us along.  With the World Cup just ending, I was feeling some deep sadness for soccer.

I really want to start playing soccer again, but after three knee surgeries I'm really hesitant.  I keep thinking, well, maybe if I just don't play super hard, or run, or this or that...I just miss playing.

It was a great game and it ended with fireworks!

It's a crappy picture, but can you see all the eerie glows on the field?  Crazy how many cellphones were out that night.

Thanks for inviting us Terry's!

Lucky Slice Pizza

So, there is this Pizza Place.  Lucky Slice Pizza to be exact.  You may have heard me talk about it before.  But it is SOOO good!  They even have vegetarian and you can purchase by the slice.  Super awesome.  We had our last Local First Meet 'n' Greet of the year there. Even the husband had a good time.

have you ever seen such a large green table?

went on a date the other night!  the oaks, up ogden canyon.   i even bought some new shoes for it.

somehow we got their biggest table and benches, but it was right next to the river outside, and it was lovely.

see the river down below?

see what i mean by "benches?"  it was a huge table.

we weren't super hungry and decided to get the appetizer platter.  i saw all the veggie options and though hooray!  for some reason i didn't think they would ALL be deep fried.  they were good, until they suddenly became ungood when i felt my heart stopping.  (i j/k. but seriously.)

oh, maybe you are like me?  the person who always drips something on themselves? ALWAYS.  plus i knocked over my water cup too.  i sure know how to impress my man.

what did we DIDN'T do this weekend? part one

i'll be the first to admit that i always plan way too much, especially when the husband is gone, even if it's just overnight.

friday: obon dancing practice

little cousin laney came to practice too.  then we went for some ice cream at Farr's Ice Cream

next, we had a sleepover!

as you can tell, laney girl slept very well.

we woke up to a lovely thunderstorm and a downpour of rain.  we sat and talked listening and smelling the rain.  i had hoped we'd make to the farmer's market on 25th street, but it was raining way to hard.

luckily, the rain stopped!  off to the farmer's market we went!

we didn't have time to walk through all the booths, but we were able to get laney a ride with the sheriff!

it's always fun to have some sister time

ogden has all these old pianos set out on the street.  so fun to listen and see them everywhere!  i really want to get a piano and do something like this to it.  it's been on my mind for a while now, i just need to do it.

we decided to stop and get lunch at Lucky Slice Pizza on 25th.

i mean, how awesome it this?

delicious pizza on top, while there was even more delicious bruschetta on the bottom (no cheese please) for me!  it really was as good as it looks.
