Ewok Style Almost

Crocheted this adorable thing the other day.  Cowl?  What do people call them? 

Well anyways, it started out because I've been seeing this way too many time on Pinterest.

Then I saw this the other day.  I decided we just needed to do it.  

I loved the Ewok movie.  Not the one in Star Wars, but the other one.  I started looking at this free pattern and realized that it was an adult size and I'd have to figure out how to make it fit Aiko.  Looking at the pattern I realized how easy they were to make and that I wouldn't make it an Ewok style after all.  (Mainly, because the husband thought it was kind of weird.)  So instead, I thought we'd make up our own cowl pattern.  No, I didn't right the pattern down as I went...but I'm sure there is a free one somewhere!  The only thing I did use from the free pattern was the ears. 

Since, I mainly crochet with that baby is sleeping, I kind of guess on all the sizes.  She has a much bigger head than I thought.  Plus, I didn't really think about the button holes until it was too late.  Because, really, I'm not going to undo all that...so while it still needs some tweaking, I thought it looked pretty cute on #ohniceandchubbybaby.

Make your own Halloween Art Cheaply II and Locally

When I'm feeling crafty, I usually have to get it done in that day, or I never get it done.  It's kind of sad how many project I start, but usually get bored and really want to start a new craft.  So, learning for my mass of not finished projects, I've learned that I must be able to get them done, start to finish in less than an hour or I have to see some extreme progress.  I've blogged about Edible Wasatch before here.  But I love the magazine.  I love reading about locals and then they always have some pretty unique prints as well.

 

This year I found their skeletons dancing quite hilarious.  Then dapper dead here was just calling to me.  I felt it needed to be included with my small Halloween decor.  I'm not usually into skeletons, but I really liked these guys below.

I ran to the thrift store, bought some super cheap frames and placed the bones inside.  I was quite please with myself.  Start, Finished and I even packed away my Halloween stuff already.  Feeling organized people.

Oh, and because it's tradition, I made our annual supply of roasted pumpkin seeds.  Which I've found quite addicting.

 

Do you like my nail art?  I've found that I really enjoy bigger, wood and nail kind of crafts...which seems fitting with my school background. I was going to make a spiderweb one...but that one sits yet unfinished in the basement.

i'm a huge fan of the land of nod.  i get the magazine and look through it over and over again.  mainly to get ideas but always wishing.  they other day a woman with @thelandofnod e-mail bought a pair of my planter heads.  i wrote her briefly telling her order was on the way and that i loved the land of nod.

then i got this.  

These are for our lobby - they're awesome! You should design product for us, your work is amazing. I could totally see it translating to lighting or something. let me know if your interested, (I'm the CEO).

i was baffled and still am. you can imagine it took me a while to figure out what to write back.  one day...maybe we'll see our planter heads in their magazine.

in the meantime, i gave my little lady a new hairdo.  she's going to look oh-so-festive in my fabulous newly remade half kitchen. 

how to make a quick pillow

so this tote has been going around my house forever. if you are like me...you are a bag lady.  i have a lot of bags and i just can't help myself.  

i've been meaning to make a pillow out of it. 

and so i did.

i bought my insert from ikea and stuffed the tote!

also, i RIPPED THAT TAG off this ikea pillow!

i was showing my friend holli (who sewed that super cute baby quilt) my quick and dirty idea...we decided we should tack the edges down...so holli did with her sewing machine and mad skills

i really like it.  the snap was left in, just in case i decide to actually wash it.

looks nice huh?  with my nice and thrifted chair.

diy curtains. no sewing, some assembly required.

so i blogged a while ago about these curtains here.

16 loooong feet of windows.  which i love and hated the thought of covering them up.  but, alas, they let out WAY too much heat.  so we had to come up with something.  i scoured Pinterest while the husband scoured other websites trying to find curtains that kept the heat out and were usually very expensive (and SUPER ugly.)  time was running out...we'd already been to ikea twice with no curtains.  

we fought even (which rarely happens) because i didn't like any of the options and he didn't like any of my suggestions. 

finally, i came up with my own version of all these pins. (here, here, here, and here)

so here's my list.

home depot's - Allied Tube & Conduit 3/4 in. x 10 ft. Electric Metallic Tube Conduit (2) $3.87 

(we used this downstairs too on our other curtains, but they are from Ikea's clearance section and kind of ugly but the husband was just dying to keep the heat in. otherwise, i'd take a picture but it's not my favorite...one day.)

*you will need a connector.  it's like a dollar.

ikea's - Ikea's Betydlig (5) $1.49  (don't forget screws to attach them to the wall like we did.  luckily, i keep a giant jar of misc. pieces just for this instance)

home depot's  - Sigman 5 ft. 9 in. x 8 ft. 9 in., 8 oz. Canvas Drop Cloth (5) $11.87 (i knew if i had to sew something it would never get done.  the pin i saw said these already had finished edges!  also, you will need to iron (yuck) these bad boys.  double check to make sure it's all the same material as well.  luckily, i actually bought 7 of them and two were different material than the rest.  oh, and i'm pretty sure these were under $10 when i bought mine.) home Depot's - Levolor 1-1/4 in. Brushed Sienna Clip Rings (5) $7.97 (which this is the cheapest i could find them and they are still expensive)

if you buy over $45 at home depot online they ship for FREE! so of course...that's what i did. (not the conduit though, it's only pick-up)

so...what do you think? 

 apparently, when i measured the height i completely forgot what i measured so the canvas drops i bought ended up being too long.  so what do i do?  fold them over!  

 

makes for a nice ruffle look!

you'll notice the the galvanized metal doesn't match, well, seeing how it was the middle of the winter, i couldn't just go and spray paint them in the freezing weather.  now, i wished i would have just bought silver curtain clips so i wouldn't have to spray paint them (if i ever do.)  oh well, it's another project for another time. 

ha, i just realized that i change what's in the window sills all the time...i love my thrifted junk you know. 

i'm still looking for options for the end of the rod...any suggestions?

so, our running total was around $110

which, my friends, is probably the cheapest, non-sewing option out there for a 16 foot window. (if there is another i don't want to know.)

a little side story...so originally i was going to do this drawing all over the bottom half of the curtains...but as sometimes happens, it completely backfired.  my drawing skills are very rusty and i'm embarrassed to even post of picture of the mishap.  tee-hee...sometime though, i may add some pom-poms as shown in this pin.

baby room part 1 (who knows if it will ever end)

this beautiful crib was given to us by a sweet lady named sherri.  i don't even know her last name.  she didn't even know me before she offered the crib.  we are so lucky she did.

apparently, sheets are really easy to make, if you like to sew. since i don't...i enlisted grandma. i had bought some material from ikea, because of course, i couldn't just have the same sheets as every other mama.  also, i have a thing for veggies and fruits.  gotta start this baby young.

the snorlax i bought from etsy (for all you pokemon lovers out there.  i love them.)  the little elephant is from my cousin! the pillow i crocheted and reused an old table cloth from the husband's mom.  i did actually sew these two together, but had my mom sew the back onto the pillow.  her night light is actually my christmas tree star.

these my friends...are my favoritest (word) things in the whole world.  

i finished these when she was around four months old.  see, i have this problem where i can't decide because there are so many wonderful options running in my head that i ultimately become stagnant.  you should have seen me picking out material...let's just say, it was miserable. i have some issues.  i'm working on them.

i also really enjoy free hand stitching. a lot.

my mom sewed the bumpers, i never could have or would have done it without her!  we followed this pattern seen on pinterest of course.  but apparently, i didn't measure my crib...so they fit a little funny (hence why there isn't a finished picture and probably will never be.) 

always measure before completely finishing your project people.

this was yet another sewing job by my mom.  she sewed the pom-poms and i fandagled it to the crib.   (which they'll probably only be chopped off.)  the burlap wasn't probably the best idea in the world, since it sheds like crazy, but i really like the way it looks.
