To redo, or not do, or to just sell it. #thriftedthursdays

I just can't decide how much I do or don't like this headboard we thrifted.  The husband wanted something that could hold books, which is very practical and useful.  But, I'm feeling this is too Pottery Barn or something for me.  I like the functionality, but it's just not what I want.  I don't know if I should try and redo it, paint it?  Or what.  I would prefer the slats the horizontal instead of vertical, but I just don't know.  The husband bought it because it was a good deal and we've been searching forever, but I'm looking for ideas.

Anyone?  Or, if you would like to buy it. . . let me know. 

#ThriftedThursdays and yet another lament

See this mirror?  I have it angled so it makes one smaller than ones appears.  Unlike my bathroom one that makes me larger than life.  Oh, the mirror is also a thrifted item.  Oh, and if you want to come and organize my jewelry for me, please do.  Let us continue my pathetic saga of the boobs. 

"You look so little! I'm ginormous in comparison." Says the other pregnant girl.  She's due a few weeks before me and there is only one reason I look little.  (Mainly from the front only do I look little.)

Boobs. 

See friend, it's taken me 29 weeks to get my stomach bigger than my boobs.  I was still nursing when I got pregnant with this guy, so, my girls never had a chance.  So while your belly may be swollen, at least people don't say "harm, your boobs are ginormous!" When they first see you.  It's just a fact of my five foot one life.   We all have our battles, mine just have double dd attached to them. 

Lets not play games, I look very large from the side.  When I see myself in the mirror I think of the line "so I'm roughy the size of a barge!" Name that movie.  Hint, it's Disney.  I know, I know, we all want the opposite, but let me tell you, all you smaller chested girls out there... D is enough, even a C.  Don't mess with anything bigger, especially, if you plan on having babies.  

It. Is. Not. What. You. Want. 

Ever had problems puttin your bras in a drawer?  No, huh, well mine have never been housed in something so lovely. They hang precariously from a belt hanger in my closet, taking up 1/5 of the closet.  I can't smash them into a drawer because they cost too much and because there is so much boning in them you can't!  These bras are meant to keep things in place.  But enough.  

Funny how the second pregnancy is so different from the first.  With Aiko, I didn't get this big until the end.  I've had a hard time putting on shoes for the last month, that didn't happen until the last two weeks. Nonetheless, I am very happy to be a pregnant lady once again.  I have to remind myself that i was miserable for five years because I couldn't get a pregnant belly (the big boobs I already had and added to the misery.)

So, while once again, I lament about my girls, I'm glad the belly just passed them up.

DIY Soap Stand

I needed a soap stand by my kitchen sink.  See, we used butcher block as our counter tops....and turns out moist things don't work well with wood counter tops.  So I find myself a lovely glass jar and a good long tray.  I needed a longer tray because the space between the wall and my sink is quite narrow.  But being long and narrow I needed a good solid base so it wouldn't tip over all the time.  I believe they worked out lovely.  I cleaned them up and soaked off the stickers.  I took my trusty Gorilla Glue and Voila!  *Note make sure that your glass jar is completely dry inside before applying to the tray. 

 

Good thing Pinterest is around so I can copy all the brilliant minds in the world.  It's also a good thing the husband enjoys going to the thrift shops with me.  Sometimes, when we are bored and just want to get out without spending oodles of money, we go thrifting.  In my current pregnant state, I find this as a way to get some exercise and just move my body. Plus, I've been aching for some creativity.  For Christmas I worked on presents for people and then just like that, they were all done and I found myself craft-less for a while.  It's been quite depressing.  I believe it's much easier to create gifts for others and have a reason for making the item instead of just making it.  So, as a result, I've been stuck.  Also, this blog from Vintage Revivals seemed to speak to my mind. 

Fall Banner with a Thrifted Book.

Recently, and finally, I've been in a crafting mood.  You don't realize how much you didn't do until you spent three months not doing it.  Now, there will be an overload of goodness. 

When we first moved in I'd make a new banner for every season, then take it down hang it in my craft room and get going on the next one.  

But I went to the craft store to look at the clearance Halloween stuff and found a steal of a deal for some fall decor.  Came with 150 pieces of sticky foam shapes and was $2.50.  So far, I've made this banner and then hung some up for Aiko's room...which I'm not quite done with, it seems a little empty, so we will continue searching for more items to add. 

But, as always, I made this because it would go up fast and I'd be done in 10 minutes. 

I ripped out some pages of a thrifted book I had (which, felt rather rebellious, and sad, because, I love books)  then I chopped them up using some good scissors.  I also don't feel the need for rulers most of the time.  I kind of eye balled this based on the center of the book page and counting lines up. 

Got some jute string, folded the tops over and taped.  Added my foam things and some leaves from outside and then taped it all together.  

Thank goodness for tape.

curse that expensive wooden rocking chair that i wanted...and then broke only weeks later, while sitting on it with my baby.  i can't bear to even throw it away, because it was hardly used!  so now it sits in storage...just waiting.  that's why, my friends, never buy anything new.

because then i found this chair.  it's even shorter for little people like me.  when the husband said it was the same material as his grandma's chair, it sealed the deal.  i really like it.  (even though it smells like old lady hairspray.)

#ohniceandchubbybaby decided that she would pose even.  love it.

well, this first photo wasn't thrifted...but they were from the dollar bin from target. including my new specs.  there were a couple other books...but they messed up the nice layout we had going here. 

hmmm, it appears, that i didn't crop my photo.  the important part is that i got all this for a quarter.  i love yard sale season. 

these puppies were purchased for very specific reasons. 

1. i wanted them

2. one for six dollars and one for seven, can you guess which one?  i'll give you a pair.  not. 

3. they were brand new from a thrift store

4. the silver ones were needed for a grease sing-along

5.  the brown ones were needed for a date with the husband. 

7. i wanted them.

cedar rapids, iowa

while in iowa, we spent a TON of time driving.  if you haven't been to iowa, just think about corn and soy beans EVERYWHERE!  but luckily, we had great end destinations.  like the main street in cedar rapids. 

it was wonderfully cute.  if miss wonderful vintage was local....sigh, if only!  they had all these amazing vintage dresses at such a good deal too. 

this furniture!  UGH, it was even well priced.  so far away!

i love yarn!

while we were in the cupcake shop a girl stopped me and asked if I was on a plane two days ago...i said yes.  apparently, she was on the same flight and sat in the row behind me!  i even remembered her because of her hot pink shorts.  such a small world, especially since i went to a town 120 miles away.

sometimes,  you just need a break from traveling.

we went to an antique shop in cedar rapids...and i am still thinking about this head.  i really have a thing for colored glass and this just screams me. i'm still debating about calling and having them just ship it. 

if any of you ever see this..buy it for me!

so instead of trying to just buy one i bought them all!  hooray for sales bins at yard sales!

so i got all these books for $12

you can fill an entire bag up!

the kids and i were playing in front of the store.  i was teaching them "pole tag."  where the poles are safe and you have to run from one to another with out getting tagged!  it wasn't really fair...since i was carrying aiko. 

  

this is only half the bookstore. it's a little dumpy...but all the necessaries of life are there! see the huge boxes in the corner...there were at least 30!  it's too bad i didn't have more time...i could be in there for hours. 

"ai-o is sucking on my finger!"  julia believes she taught aiko to suck her thumb.

funny kids.  there were debating which flavor to get.  eating some necessary nutrition is necessary after playing pole tag.  good times little logan.  good times.
