Finally, getting it.

People always ask me if I can teach them to crochet.  Thing is, I had to try crocheting multiple times over 20 years to finally get it right.  I remember the first thing I crocheted...it was suppose to be just a square.  It ended up being some kind of trapezoid shape.

Fast forward years later, in order to get it right, I had my mom sitting there, reading instructions with me and testing it all.  Even now, 5 years later, I still go to her to see what she thinks this pattern is saying.  It's crazy how there are so many different ways to write crochet patterns.  Everyone has their own way of saying the same thing.  I've made a lot of stuffed animals lately.  Only in the last couple months, and only making tons of these bunnies (here) have I figured out how to make my own patterns.  Like this little lady.

So, if you want to learn to crochet, maybe you should ask my mom instead.  Since, really, it took me over the course of 20 years to learn crocheting.   Good thing for moms right?

While waiting for little brother make his debut. . .

I sat.  I sat a lot.  Probably more than I care to really share.  But at least I was productive this time.  I didn't really want Aiko to be eating a ton of sweets, so I thought I'd make her something instead.  I found this adorable bunny pattern (that I bought here) and set to work. It was super easy!  So, I made a few, plus little brother needed one.  (I actually stitched Orion's name on the back of his...before he was born, basically setting in stone that his name would be Orion. Luckily, we used that name.)

I'm afraid that these are the cutest/coolest/Asian style Easter eggs I have ever seen.  I went to a few different Target stores to find them.  Yes, there was a pack of like 30 for the same price, but do you see the ears?  The faces? It was a match made in Asian heaven I tell you.  Plus, I mean, they totally matched my bunnies above and below.

Yes, these are adorable.  Yes, I purchased a pattern here.  Yes, I'm still in love with them.  Yes, I tried to put Orion in his to take a picture, but he was too big and only 4 days old.

Sigh, these really are one of my favorite thing I've crocheted.

Aiko actually played with her bunny before Easter even came around, I mean, I was ready for Easter like a month in advance.  But they sat as a lovely April decoration nonetheless.

Ewok Style Almost

Crocheted this adorable thing the other day.  Cowl?  What do people call them?

Well anyways, it started out because I've been seeing this way too many time on Pinterest.

Then I saw this the other day.  I decided we just needed to do it.

I loved the Ewok movie.  Not the one in Star Wars, but the other one.  I started looking at this free pattern and realized that it was an adult size and I'd have to figure out how to make it fit Aiko.  Looking at the pattern I realized how easy they were to make and that I wouldn't make it an Ewok style after all.  (Mainly, because the husband thought it was kind of weird.)  So instead, I thought we'd make up our own cowl pattern.  No, I didn't right the pattern down as I went...but I'm sure there is a free one somewhere!  The only thing I did use from the free pattern was the ears.

Since, I mainly crochet with that baby is sleeping, I kind of guess on all the sizes.  She has a much bigger head than I thought.  Plus, I didn't really think about the button holes until it was too late.  Because, really, I'm not going to undo all that...so while it still needs some tweaking, I thought it looked pretty cute on #ohniceandchubbybaby.

#thriftedthursdays

curse that expensive wooden rocking chair that i wanted...and then broke only weeks later, while sitting on it with my baby.  i can't bear to even throw it away, because it was hardly used!  so now it sits in storage...just waiting.  that's why, my friends, never buy anything new.

because then i found this chair.  it's even shorter for little people like me.  when the husband said it was the same material as his grandma's chair, it sealed the deal.  i really like it.  (even though it smells like old lady hairspray.)

#ohniceandchubbybaby decided that she would pose even.  love it.

baby room part dos

ya know, it's true, i never knew how much love can go to a little baby.  every time she smiles, she about melts my heart. i haven't used the word "adorable" more times than these last couple months in my whole life.

this blanket is also adorable friends.  my friend holli made it, hand picked all the material and hand quilted all of it.  how does someone know someone else so well?  i love this and for some reason this sun totally makes me think of aiko. corny i know, but i'm a mama people.

this pup i made.
my grandma phyllis was an avid crocheter and had a subscription to some magazine.  guess who she bequeathed them too?

this little hippo was thrifted from japan's finest thrift shops.

this game is very hard....i can't remember what its called, but it also traveled from japan.

and this.

this heater plays an important part in our lives.  especially in picking it out.  with his new baby, the husband scoured over websites, comparing, researching which would be the best deal and most efficient. ;)

sweet sister hannah and the mama made this. seen on one of my pinterest boards. (sigh, you know how you pin things and then can't find them AGAIN?!?!)

thrifted

bought from etsy, i'm not even going to tell you how much i spent.  for some reason the knitted look is so much cuter than the crocheted and since i can't knit...

ikea pails from grandma walker. use them to hide all her bathroom stuff. the cute little bunny slippers i bought on a whim (i should have crocheted them but see, when you are 9 months pregnant you don't want to do anything) the doily i did crochet myself...and it was the first and last one i'll probably ever do.

Olive's Blanket but Mustard

I knew I was going to make this as soon as I saw it.

I also knew that mustard was going to be a main color.
Mainly, because I heart Mustard and a good friend, namely Natalie, had a wonderful gram that was giving up some yarn.

By some, I mean, a LOT of yarn.  Luckily...I was able to snag some.  Again, by some, I mean 4 boxes full, and I felt bad about taking that much, but I barely dented it.
Now, what to do with it?

Dottie Angel has a pattern here!
Pinned here.
